O2-The Fall Retreat

Last weekend we went on a two day, one night retreat with some high school students from our church. We spent our time at a retreat center about an hour north of where we live. We left Titus with a friend and had a really good time. Here is a video that I put together with some highlights from the weekend.

Matt

Akron Marathon 07

Matt’s Race Day Experience:

Matt Akron Marathon 07I ran and finished my first marathon. It took me 4:05:32, I finished 563 out of 1164 and ran 9:22 splits. It was a really great day to run, in the upper 40’s when we began at 7am and the low 70’s by the end. When I ran the Cleveland half marathon in May I had a really fun time. I would say that this experience was not as much fun but definitely more rewarding.

The course was really hilly and by mile 21 it was wearing me out. I managed to run with a pace group for the first 20 miles and then slowly fell behind. I ran the last 5 miles or so by myself and just concentrated on getting to the next mile marker, that was the most memorable part of the race for me. Shelby, Ann (my in laws) Beth and Titus cheered me on at many points along the way and I was glad for their encouragement. I saw them at about mile 20 and said….I’m getting tired. There were two ladies handing out half-bananas at about mile 22, which I more than happily accepted…it was probably the best banana I have ever eaten! I got pretty bad cramps at mile 25 and had to sit and stretch for a minute a nice lady thought I was about to pass out and I asked if I wanted her to call anyone….no, I’m going to finish. Mile 25 I began running downhill and nearly broke into tears…weird, I don’t know what was going on there I just felt like I was going to cry. The final .2 took us into the Akron Aeros Baseball Stadium and that was really cool (the video shows me in the red shirt crossing the finish line). There were a lot of people in the stands and it was a great way to end.

It is now Monday at I am still a little sore but feeling much better than yesterday! I’m not sure if I will run Akron again…that was enough hills for now but am thinking about the Cleveland Marathon in May and maybe Chicago in October of 2008. =)

Beth’s Race Day Experience:

T-Shirts Akron07 A couple days before the race a friend of ours told me how she wore a bright pink shirt with the rest of her family to support her daughter in the San Diego marathon. I thought it was a great idea so my parents and I went out and bought some $2.00 t-shirts. We wrote Run Matt on the front and then I put the names of everyone I knew running on mine. My dad got creative and put Run Matt Run on the front and then See Matt Run on the back. Many runners commented as they ran by. =)

It was amazing to see over 1, 600 people running at once! Plus we had so much fun cheering people on as they ran by. A lot of runners had their names on their shirts or bibs. We all have a great time yelling out their names and getting the thumbs up or head nod in return.

All in all, it was a ton of fun to go to and Titus did a great job for getting up at 5:15 am and skipping his morning nap!

So…Right Handed?

We were eating dinner the other night when I looked over at Titus’s tray and started laughing.  He was eating peas and ate all of the ones on the right side of the tray first! Check it out…

Count Down to the Marathon

In a week Matt is running in the Akron Marathon. We’ve heard it’s a harder one with a lot of hills. He is very excited, but also nervous. Beth has been getting tips from a friend on what she can so to help the day of the race and the ones to follow. It’s suppose to be a really nice day, but as we all know a lot can change in a week!

Oh…here’s the picture I tried to put up on the last post. Boy is our little guy getting big! Titus pulling himself up

Time Flies!

Wow, it’s already middle of August! Sorry we haven’t been keeping you up to date, but summer got busy for us. We spent a week at a conference in Chicago and then another week at Camp Barakel (a camp in Northern Michigan). It was a ton of fun, but it is also nice to be back home and on some what of a schedule.

Titus is growing like crazy! He is crawling, pulling himself up on the sofa, and walking while holding another’s hands. He no longer likes to just sit in one place and chew on toys. He much prefers to play with another person…mostly his mom! He is still doing great and is getting more friends to play with as many of our friends are having babies. With in the last week and a half, three of our close friends had their first child. Two of them had boys and the other had a girl (just today!).

This picture is one I took today so you can see what Titus is looking like at 9 months and 13 days.

Well…I tried to upload the picture, but I am having trouble. I’ll keep trying so maybe come back in a day or two.

Matt’s Trip to Whitby, England

Whitby Team 2007Matt will be in Whitby, England leading a team of 13 to partner with Whitby Evangelical Church. The team leaves Friday, June 15th and returns to the States on Wednesday, June 27th. He is very excited but also feels the responsibility of leading such a trip. This is a picture of the team and a prayer calendar if you would please keep them in your prayers.

The Message

This past Sunday I preached at our church in the morning service. The passage was Psalm 19 and I learned so much during my studies.

If you like you can listen to it here or download the mp3.
